Ask the Nutritionista: Eating Fruit at Night?

“What are the best fruits to eat at night?” -Louis

Fantastic question!  In general I recommend sticking with lower sugar fresh fruits at night, if you are going to snack at night at all.  Avoid dried or canned fruit and all tropical fruits like banana and mango which are very high in sugar.  Berries, Granny Smith apples, plums, peaches, apricots, grapefruit (ask your doctor first if you take any medications), honeydew and casaba melons are all good options.

Even better, if you must snack in the evening try to have some lean protein- such as a hard-boiled omega 3 egg, a small handful of raw nuts/seeds or half a cup of plain, low fat organic Greek yogurt with a little vanilla powder mixed in.
