10 Healthy Snack Ideas for Kids

Toddlers and preschoolers are always on the move but they need high quality fuel to grow and learn.  To complicate matters further kids are often fickle little people whose eating schedules don’t necessarily coordinate with those who care for them.  One day they will barely take a bite of anything and the next they will eat everything and anything they can get their hands on.  For the most part, this is ok.  They will eat when they are hungry.  Try any of these healthy mostly finger-food snack ideas for your favorite little one.  Bonus points for a fun presentation.

-Fruit smoothie with their favorite fruits, unsweetened organic yogurt, organic milk of choice (unsweetened) and a hidden handful of greens.  Smoothies also make great homemade popsicles to keep on hand.

– ½-1 hard-boiled omega 3 egg

-Whole grain crackers or pita, red peppers, pea pods and quartered cherry tomatoes dipped in guacamole, hummus or organic cottage cheese

-Apple or pear slices with organic cheese or smooth unsweetened raw nut or seed butter

-Fresh bite sized berries and pitted cherries (cut into small bite sized pieces as necessary)

Chocolate avocado pudding with fruit

– Mashed sweet potato with stewed apples, vanilla bean powder and cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice

-Watermelon “cookies” (cut sliced, seedless watermelon with your favorite cookie cutters for fun shapes, this also works great with other melons, kiwi and pineapple) with yogurt or coconut dip

-1/2 a slice or a mini muffin of your favorite whole grain and low sugar muffin or bread recipe (like this gluten-free pumpkin spice bread.)

Banana “ice cream”– blend frozen bananas with any other favorite frozen fruits with a splash of your milk of choice or coconut water and a little vanilla bean or even cacao powder. Serve immediately.
