Get the Glow Green Juice

Fresh green juice is so good for you!  It is loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, enzymes and even good fats.  When you drink fresh green juice regularly and combine it with a healthy diet it absolutely gives you the green juice glow.  It is absolutely a true beauty food!

And yet so many people are extremely hesitant to try them thinking they are going to taste horrible.  While I will be the first to admit drinking straight up cabbage juice isn’t the most pleasant experience (even though it is loaded with goodness and is great for stomach ulcers), fresh green juice tastes light, fresh, energizing and delicious.

Green Juice Lite Ingredients

For green juice newbies, I generally recommend to start with this beginner green juice recipe and gradually work their way up to including more (and more bitter) greens and possibly less fruit as your palate adjusts.  It will happen; it just might take a little bit of time.  This juice is sweet, smooth and refreshing and is excellent for the liver.  It is one of my favorite juices to sip on if I’m not feeling well or want something a little sweet without being loaded with sugar.

Give it a try!  I would love to hear what you think!  What are your favorite green juice beginner recipes?

Get the Glow Green Juice

2 apples- any variety, cored (Gala and Fuji apples tend to be sweeter, while Granny Smith and Pink Lady tend to be tart and acidic)

2 stalks of celery

½ C cucumber (or 1 mini cucumber)

1 cup greens (you can use whichever combination of greens you like and have around the house.  Spinach tends to be the mildest and as a rule baby greens are milder than mature greens.  Kale, collards, bok choy, Swiss chard, dandelion greens, parsley and cilantro all work great as well.)

¼- ½ of a fresh lemon or lime, peeled (to taste, start with less and work up as desired)

¼ inch slice of fresh ginger (to taste, start with less and work up as desired)

Juice half of the apples, celery and cucumber.  Roll your greens into a tight ball and feed through your juicer.  Follow with the ginger, lemon and the remaining ingredients.  Stir well, taste for flavor and adjust, adding more lemon, ginger or apple to taste.  Enjoy!

Hi Erin! Wondering about juicing greens that come on my veggies – carrot tops, beet greens, etc. Also, have you ever juiced a pomegranate? do you find the seeds problematic?

With winter here it’s great to still have access to organic produce but I find myself mostly doing carrot apple ginger – thanks for the reminder to get those greens in the juice!

      Hi Lisa,

Thank you for stopping by! I love juicing pomegranates, especially now that they are in season! I actually find the best way to juice them is using a citrus juicer (electric is best), believe it or not. Just cut the pomegranate in half and juice each half like an orange.

Carrot tops are high in alkaloids, which have the potential to be toxic. Because of this, I do not advocate juicing carrot greens. I would actually avoid juicing beet greens as well, especially for those who suffer from kidney stones, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis or gout as they are very high in oxalates. They may be fine for some people to juice in moderation, but of course check with your doctor first to ensure safety in your specific case.
