Ginger Goji Tea

We all feel under the weather from time to time, and January is peak flu-season (with a second peak typically in March.)  This is my favorite “tea” for when I’m not feeling my best.  It is warm and soothing and acts as a natural decongestant, cough suppressant and anti-inflammatory as well as being a fabulous detox tea.  Lots of clear fluids, rest and homemade vegetable broth too of course.

Ginger Goji Tea

2-3 slices of lemon

1-3 slices of fresh ginger

1 Tb dried goji berries

1 tsp raw local honey (or B grade maple syrup for a vegan option)

Hot filtered water

In your favorite mug combine the lemon slices, ginger slices, goji berries and honey.  Carefully cover with hot water and stir well.  Sometimes I throw in a piece of a cinnamon stick, some vanilla bean or star anise as well for an extra dose of coziness.  If I am congested, I add a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper to the tea if I can stomach it.  Allow to steep for 5 minutes, adjust to taste and drink.  Enjoy, rest and feel better!
